Basic Link Building 2014

Every guide I read on link building is followed by: "These methods are dramtically less effective now".

Can someone tell me what is a good way I can build links to my low competition sites to see some ranking?

Web 2.0's
Wiki's
Directory Submissions
Article Submissions
Blog Comments

Which are still effective? It seems everyone says everything is remotely useless now.

I released my site over a week ago. It is bouncing between pages 6-8 on google for its homepage. How can I boost it up in ranks? I dont know where to start because everybody says everything is pointless now.

I like using blog comments, forums, article sites like Squidoo, sites like Reddit, and social networking sites. All of these will grow you following and will simultaneously grow your backlinks.

Would posting on like 10 pr 2-3 relevant blogs actually do anything? I also heard article sites and forums are kind useless now.

That depends on what you're talking about. If the sites are piles of spun content on an expired domain, they're probably not going to do any good. The problem isn't the link building techniques per se, but the IM variants where you fake the thing and hope Google wouldn't notice.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

        What's your excuse?

This is what I gather as well.

Lol this post made 0 sense to me. Are you saying if you comment on non relevant shitty blogs it will be a waste? Isnt that obvious?

I think what he meant was that many of the techniques such as web 2.0's article directories, etc still work, but require more care than they used to. for instance, you could spin a single article ten ways to tuesday and submit it to every directory under the sun and receive some serious link juice. Now, the articles need to be unique, the directories chosen should be of high quality, etc.

Sounds like he's talking about private blog networks.

It's very much not obvious from your original post. You just moan about some broad categories of sites not working for link building in general, and even ask which of those do work.

So you write in a way that seems to completely miss the point and accuse me of making no sense? Well, I'm glad that you at least find it funny.

If you recently live your site, post good PR about your website, try to give 4 to 5 interviews, post quality contents and share it. Work on Social Media like twitter, linkedin, facebook.

You are all (or most) in denial. In context links on pages with juice are the only way to go forward. all the crap bookmarks, blog comments are only going to get slap , slapped and slapped.

its so freaking simple. Go to a serp and do a search of the top sites. outside of long tail weak serps show me even one site ranking just on the power of crap links.

Is not that they are in denial is simply that they don't know any better, they have never had to compete for real competitive keywords, when you are going for long tail keywords you can rank without any backlinking.

From my limited experience links from article directories and 2.0's have lost significant value over the past 12 weeks.

If recent statements by Matt Cutts didn't convince me, manually removing (unspun) articles and regaining my ranking did.

    • It's not easy to answer this question..Since Google seems to ignore some backlink sources which are very great and really working in the past..One that still works I thing is blog commenting..

The link building methods that you mentioned above. They all still work if you do it correctly as many tend to do it aggressively an in the wrong ways and cause their sites to be sandbox by all mighty Google.

They are methods that you can apply or alternatively outsoure this as seo now adays is not the way it used to be. Google made sure if that sadly with all the changes.

They are far from done so you can expect those links to be even less effective by the end of the year.
