Old Methods Still Working?

One of you owns the site -- I know that. I'm glad to see it still works for you.

I have a toothache, and I googled some keyword phrase for relief for toothache pain that only comes from about 7pm until 3:30am.

The phrase I entered gave me a list of results. I clicked on the 3rd real choice (not the ads). The website looked familiar. The articles looked spun, but readable.

I checked the source code and it was wordpress with an xfactor theme. The site had the look of the old xfactor sites but it was built up to many pages. There don't appear to be a lot of backlinks (not many at all actually).

Obviously he/she was/is building an authority site on "teeth", not just toothaches. It was nice to find one of the old sites still working in the SERPS.

You know, Google is changing every day - the search engine is rolling out new algorithms, new changes. And all that alters the landscape of the whole industry.

But to my surprise, some SEO techniques, that were supposed to be dead or ineffective still work! And work pretty well.

If anyone analyzes the companies that are ranking ahead of them, I GUARANTEE that they will find at least a couple (maybe a lot more) that have a ton of sketchy links, old websites, spun articles, etc.

Why it still works? It seems like a sort of mystery to me...
