I need help. I can't seem to get my website consistently ranking on the first page of the SERPs, especially Google.

Please tell me what I can do to improve my rankings.

My website is DUI Attorney | Find a DUI Lawyer in Your City. My primary keywords are "dui attorney," "dui attorneys" and "dui lawyer."

I have done some on-page SEO and have approximately 2,000 backlinks. The website consistently ranks on the third, fourth and fifth pages of Yahoo and Bing. It has infrequently bounced onto the first page of Yahoo and Bing but never consistently.

I admit I have been inconsistent backlinking and updating content.

Do you think if I provide consistent fresh content and work on the backlinks that this is all I need to do to improve my rankings?

Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Yes! You need to provide fresh and quality content not spun content and also try to buy some backlinks from High PR sites.

            Well Google wants sites that rank on the first page that are useful to their users. Your site is not particularly useful to people searching for your keywords nationally.

            Searchers in major cities will find nothing much to use

            Miami, Nada (no lawyers)
            LA ONE lousy lawyer
            Atlanta: Nada (no lawyers)
            New York City One lousy lawyer.

            Besides that the site doesn't seem at all helpful or appealing. You are doing what a lot of people do. You are thinking of the site from an owner's perspective and wanting to rank not the users perspective.

            You can get away with that in some niches but not major lawyer money making keyword serps. If that even were to rank it would be reported for spam links because it would be fairly obvious to any SEO working in that niche that it would not get links naturally

              I intend to sell exclusive listings to one attorney only in their desired city. At this point, I don't have an attorney established for every city, obviously.

              I have been adding articles to cities as I've been going along. The articles contain content suitable for that particular city/state.

              What do you think about me attacking one city in particular and optimize and backlink that particular page until it ranks well and then go city by city instead of trying to attack a national ranking for the master domain? For example, try to get a first page ranking for "DUI Attorney Tulsa" and then first page for "DUI Attorney Tampa," etc. instead of trying to get a first-page ranking for just "DUI Attorney."

                The site is poor. it is poorly designed and the articles themselves are not relevant. to what someone looking for a lawyer wants or needs to read. Think of the users not what you want to make or you will not succeed.

                Thats the best advice I can give you.

                  I went to my city, and this is what I got. I did click on my city, obviously, since you display it right there.

                  Scrap or buy a list of DUI lawyers at least.

      I was attempting to build an email list. I added that about two years ago. I haven't made any changes to the "layout" since then. I see now that that is not ideal.

    How relevant are your backlinks? If they are not closely related to your niche, it might hurt your rankings.

    OP, here's what your facing as far as competition.

    The keywords your targeting are local keywords, but your trying to rank as If they're not local. Each individual city page needs to be ranked per local keyword, not just trying to rank a Home page that includes every state hyperlink on the one page.

    Go to an Incognito browser & search for the keyword DUI Attorney, you should be seeing mostly local search results. Now change your browser location on Google SERPs to an out of state city, you'll see local results for a different city for the same keyword (DUI Attorney).

    My point is since you have local keywords, you have mostly unique SERP competition for every city in the US.

    you have gain large number of sidewide links(10,000). Check your complete back links and i am not sure in coming google update will hurt you more.

      Hello dear, You are running after back links, It can be harm to you. Go easy and create a good content for your website, Do not focus on your keywords, First give the priority to the best content. Hate back links, I never go it comes naturally If I help the users. My users are my important for me. So think differently now in SEO industry.
