Auto-refreshing page - is this a no-no for Google?

I'm working with a client that runs a sports news release service. I'm inheriting legacy code and I'm trying to sort it all out.
Anyway, it looks like they have an auto-refresh in the header
<meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="300" />
Any opinions on whether Google sees this as black-hat (or slightly shady) at all? Personally, I'd like to delete it, but if it's not hurting anything, then I suppose I can leave it.
