Anyone else seeing this, a Youtube video in Google SERPs (WTH?).

I've never seen a HUGE video image in the SERPs like that. That CTR has to be 99.99%.

Today i saw a site, page ranking in the serps, with a video thumbnail next to it. How in the world does one get a video next to your page, without being youtube -____-

Self hosted video embeded on the page or use Yoast's Video Seo Plugin.

Did you check the source code for Schema markup? I suspect this has something to do with it as well.

Like Oranges said, If you don't know how to add the video thumbnails to the SERPs use the paid yoast plugin.

I've been ranking self hosted video thumbnails (custom images) for a while, they do help with SERP CTR.

Looks like those 2 videos are from music artists, so it might be Youtube's way of supporting artists.

Seen any of those big videos outside the music niche? If so, the video sitemap might be replicable.

Would be interesting seeing 3 of those video 'boards' on 1 page

I'm all for stuff like that, supporting artist with a HUGE image at the top of the SERPs per song title.

So far all I've seen is HUGE music video images in the SERPs with links pointing to Youtube. If anyone finds a HUGE image like that with the link pointing to another site besides Youtube, post it, I want to see what's going on. Really I would be surprised If Google lets any site besides Youtube rank those images.

It's something that kicked in about a week ago. I have only seen it in music related searches so far. I tried stuff like specific movie scenes or just movies. Nothing. Also tried TV shows, news broadcasts, and a few other media related searches. Trying anything I can think of that would make sense for Google to show a result like that. Only song, lyrics, and/or band searches is what I have found.

This is my favorite so far, since I just spent about 4 days with no electricity (Suck it Mother Nature).

I have a feeling this might be tied into Freebase & Knowledge Graph data.

But isn't THAT what users want to see in the first spot/place anyway?

      Yep. It makes total sense.

Google was trying these out on tablets. Since there's
a lot of crossover, maybe they just made it across
        the board.

Thanks, I had not noticed this. Some videos don't seem to get the same treatment if you search for just the song name, but if you add the artist name to the search the video thumbnail changes. Might have something to do with search traffic and how good a match the video is. Tried this with some popular artists from my home country and it worked on those searches too.

As far as I know the video SEO markup is just the same schema.org microdata Google recommends for semantic marking of the content. This Moz article might help.

I too have seen this and it actually caught me by surprise when I discovered it. It seems to me that google is successfully identifying keywords and bringing back these types of results where they know exactly what the user wants to see.
