Ranking for many keywords with one page

You know how some websites have a box at the bottom side of their page that has a lot of keywords stuffed in it? I think they are called tags. I'm just wondering, does doing that help your page to rank for all those keywords or not? Does Google and the other search engines pay attention to that or not?

    It doesn't help rank, it' just a way for a reader to click the keyword and find other articles relating to that tag within the same website or blog. It's a way or organising a site an making it more user friendly and easier to navigate.

    Sometimes I have seen URL's with tag is ranking in Google. Also it helps in indexing.
