Dissecting SEO Strategy

I’ve been working on the SEO for an online retailer in a niche market, not illegal or adult, but legal food supplement in the US market. Because their product is considered a food supplement, they cannot use Google adwords and have barely been able to squeak by using Bing paid ads.

Anyway, one amazing thing is that the company that I work for has done an amazing job with customer service, so there has been some good customer growth and retention because of it. Recently, a competitor experienced a tremendous jump on organic search ranking. After reverse engineering their model, I found that they’d taken several non-related TLD’s like childrens advocacy dot com and dropped in a wordpress template, one page, and listed their product and one blog post with 1 or 2 links going back to their site. These sites have little to no meta descriptions, no analytics, no seo techniques, etc. These sites have a PR of 4 and my guess is they’ve used some black-hat technique to boost those random sites to a PR of 4 or 5 and the overall boost in ranking for their primary site may be temporary.

With that said, even if those sites are eventually flagged, their website would have received 100’s if not 1000’s of new customers from this page 1 exposure in google.

If you have any ideas, please post or message me. I really appreciate any input or ideas that you may offer.

Warmest Regards
