Changing domain name of the website

My website lost rankings in Google after last algorithm updates. I have removed all the bad links from it but still can not see any positive results for the website. Now I am planning to redirect the old domain to the new one. Is it possible to use the same content? Will it cause problems in indexing the new website? Will the content be considered as copied from the original domain? I am going to use keyword in new domain name. Will using keyword be beneficial in new domain? Please let me know if any other option is available besides changing domain name for better SEO results.

If the old domain was penalized there could be a chance that the penalty does pass through it. This is something that is still debated with mixed opinions.

I would say if your site is "branded" and a lot of people find it by name or maybe you get a lot of referral traffic from other websites then yes a redirect would be worth it. If not, I'd say just take the old domain offline and don't redirect it to the new one.

No matter what you have to take the old domain offline when you re-upload the new content on the new domain to avoid duplicate content issues. You will not be penalized for re-using the content from your old domain.

As far as as using "keyword" in the new domain, it helps a little, but it's not a major factor. I would rather have a memorable "brandable" domain than some odd sounding keyword stuffed domain name.
