Hi,

I have online fashion store fashion-drop.com, but fashion niche is very competitive and it is hard to get good positions in search results. I know niche sites work better, but we have put in lot of work in this and believe we can reach good results just by adjusting SEO strategy.

So I have idea for SEO strategy and would like to ask to SEO experts their opinion. Now we have website with menu and product categories. I want to try to focus on niche keywords in following way.

Choose keyword for example "party dresses" create different website for it with own blog on subdomain party-dresses.fashion-drop.com and in that website would be only party dresses, but on top menu which would link other categories in fashion-drop.com. This way I would have niche website plus would have mother website as main brand.

Is it good idea to make several subdomain niche websites? Does anyone have experience what google says about this?

Thank you.

Hey, I'm in the fashion industry as well. We have all categories + sub-categories on the main site.

Just have a navigation menu. No need to make multiple sites like dresses.sitename.com , pants.sitename.com.

The fashion industry is tough to crack. Especially with all the fashion bloggers. It's like a cult lol.

Ask me anything about fashion + online marketing if you want.

I will recommend to create the category and subcategory(try to make category and subcategory base on gooogle search), your navigation structure should be not complicate, you can check your top competitors. Add blog in your website. Post Content related to product, events, industry update, coupon, discount and try to generate internal linking. It will take time but you will starting seeing the result within 2 to 3 months. Don't forget to focus on social media also.

Google sees no difference in subdomains. As long as your sitemap is up to date (should i mention that you need a sitemap?), Google will index what is there, but there are some tricks to keeping the link juice in the same category.

I think creating sub-domain of keywords is not a good idea, as compared creating the sub-categories which is SEO friendly URLs. Try to find long tail keywords and promote it in your region specific area. Or promote fashion clothes or accessories with the brand names. These types of keywords is less competition and ranked easily and user also find this thing with the their brand names, styles, etc.

Sub domain is not an issue with Google but some guidelines need to follow

Avoid hyphens. Hyphens detract from credibility and can act as a spam indicator.
Top-Level Domain (TLD) are the extensions associated with domain names. For best ranking results, avoid uncommon top-level domains (TLDs). Like hyphens, TLDs such as .info, .cc, .ws, and .name are spam indicators.
    Length
Avoid domain names longer than 15 characters. Short domain names are easier to remember, easier to share, and have a smaller chance of resulting in typos.
