ISP Threatening To Cancel Service For Using Xenu

Hey Everyone,

Last couple of weeks I have been using Xenu Link Sleuth pretty hot and heavy.

My ISP has received 2 complaints from "security companies" about me attacking sites. I have explained to my ISP what I am doing and why, how the program works etc. They said they will be talking with their engineers but at this point if they get anymore complaints that they will cut off my service.

The first complaint was for a financial institution in South Korea which I did not run through link sleuth and I am assuming was just a link on one of the sites I did run through Xenu.

The second complaint was from an edu which I did run through Xenu.

Any suggestions, ideas or alternatives?

A this point I have a pretty nice sized list of domains to use. But I really enjoy the hunt.

Thanks
Matt

VPS with a VPN service like Hide My Ass if needed

    The end.

Get a windows VPS, not a VPN.

You can get a solid backbone connection with relatively unlimited bandwidth and most VPS don't care about complaints like that one.

Your ISP has every right to cancel your service, Xenu can easily look like DDoS style activity.

You get both and you will be fine even if the VPS does care (and they will if the complaint is serious enough). Thats the point. The VPN I suggested is for changing the IP address. $11 per month

Yep, Use VPN. My ISP didn't threatening me, but they asked me what I was doing. After that question, I got a VPN.

You might also want to check the settings of your spidering tool. You're hammering the site so much that they're complaining so a bit of delay between requests might go a long way.

Although I must say that I've seen some pretty wild complaints from administrators about stuff that's completely normal. Somebody loading your site? Who would've thunk.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?
