Does this price seem fair for backlinking my site

my site is a niche product site, lets say I am selling umbrellas. I got quoted by a guy who seems like he knows what he is doing for $135 for the following:

Okay, I will do 100 directories, 100 forums (We need to sort out 5 high PR forums to maintain and engage) 20 social bookmarking, 20 Video submission and 20 image submission over a two week period
This is the first time I have ever outsourced any kind of back linking work, does that seem right? the guy is from the Philippians, he sounds like he knows what he is doing, but u w0t m8? $135, is that fair price?

I have a small budget to start with like $50-$70, im thinking maybe google/bing PPC adds would be better.

It sound to me like you are overpaying for junk. You could get the same thing done for probably around $50 by someone else. However, whether you pay $50 or $135 for it, the result will be the same. Just about nothing.

I agree with Mike on that one. You could get the same from fiverr. But this kind of link building won't bring you any traffic. You need to engage with your audience.

        Oldschool.

Maybe in 2008 that might have been a good deal and a good price.

Why pay for a ton of unnatural links? This will harm not benefit you. You're better off spending $135 on a targeted Ad Campaign if you want short-term results.

        Good SEO takes time.

    thanks for the replies.

How do I create solid back link myself for a product like umbrellas for example, I mean is their isint even a forum or anything for the thing i am selling. Facebook/twitter pages wont make too much impact I feel as no one is going to like a page about say umbrellas.

The keyword I am targeting is getting enough views and i'm sure I can rank pretty well in Google, but im just not sure how. I thought out sourcing someone to get me some solid links would help?

    halp! lol

Where your traffic is located depends on what your selling.

Don't just say your selling umbrellas, are they Scooby Doo umbrellas or umbrellas for business people wearing suits?

Figure out your demographics first, next figure out where your traffic hangs out online, then build links (direct traffic + SEO).

It saddens me that people and businesses still fall for this sort of link buying package which is almost entirely worthless. I've seen people charging more than this even!

Surely people can do their due diligence before shelling out for these sorts of services? If not, they shouldn't really be in business.

Anyway, I'm glad you asked here and I agree with what others have said. As for what link building you can do yourself, I suggest taking a week to sit down and read up about the subject both here on the forum but more so on some of the big SEO/IM blogs. But nobody can tell you exactly what links you need or how many.

They're skinflints Stevey. They need to lose their site to a tank a couple of times. Then they

A: Give up on SEO saying it's impossible
B: Wake up and get the professionals in

My bet is the guy is reselling the OP a Fiverr gig.

True many people are looking for SEO on the cheap because they don't appreciate the true value....BUT I have also seen small to medium sized companies hire who they believe to be a "professional" company but instead get duped into paying a decent chunk of change for the same crap as the OP.

True, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he was being resold a Fiverr gig.

        Sad state of affairs really...

You should just use that amount for advertising since you indicated that it's a product type website.

You would have better bang for your buck there instead of those links that could potentially harm your site in the long run.

You are hiring the Philippians for that much? the bible writing business must be having some troubles these days... lol

You can get the same or probably more at Fiverr for $25,-

The guy sure doesn't know what he's doing or he wouldn't spam your site with such crap.

You can do it by yourself, too. So you will save 9,64$ per day if you work it by your own. Also this kind of backlinks are not really worth in my opinion. So its better to use your money for ads. Google being smarter and smarter day by day.

ALSO if i am not wrong, backlink quality much better than backlink quantity today.
I prefer 20 quality backlinks than 56787845 spam backlinks.

You already got replies and got answers to your questions. 135$ for such a service would be worth, if he could really prove himself and show you examples from his past experience. The question that you should ask is how professional and in what quality the service will be delivered to you. If he could prove you from his previous experience some work done, you could just give him the money and get what you want. No matter how well you know the job you do, since you are not well known in the market even if you deliver a very high quality job, it should be cheap till you get known and trusted in the market to charge more. This guy seems to be delivering you the same job they do on fiverr for 5$ but in somehow a tricky way to show you that this job is higher in price.
It's better you to go on the way and do the job that he would do for you by spending some time daily. Search and learn. Then go on the way on forums, social media, social bookmarking, articles, blog commenting. At least you will know where you leave your backlinks whether than someone to leave your backlink about umbrellas on a food niche.
