What if we follow what Matt Cutts preaches? Consider if there was no Google, what would you do? Just create the website for your audience and the traffic should follow in the natural.

post a youtube video with keywords targeting back to what your trying to rank
post blog comments to related niche blogs linking back to your site.

Everything you do outside of your site's CONTENT is totally useless if your site
have nothing or very little Content wise to solidify it place in SERP.

Only a few articles won't work in most cases... Yeah, you got the domain, but you also need some quality backlinks! You can try with Social Bookmarking sites, Forum marketing, a few blog comments, a few web directories, etc.

So your goal is to see whether any of your pages can rank for long tail keywords. You should do perfect on-page seo first. Then analyze your competitors to see what it takes for their pages to rank for that long tail keyword. After some time, you can check your google webmaster tools to see if there is any page gets to the 2nd or 3rd page of google for some long tail keywords. Then focus on building backlinks for those pages.

Do keyword Research. Write meta titles, description. Build some backlinks from different sources. Above all write good content.

Basically, there are two components in SEO. On page and off page. For on-page SEO you need to make sure you've got your keywords in your text (near the beginning of your article) and in H1 title tags. Don't overdo the density as this will trigger "spam" alerts for Google. Probably 1% to 2% keyword density.
You should also have outbound links to non-competing authority sites in your content.
Another thing that helps on-page SEO is to have links in your article that link to other pages and posts on your website. (Check out how Wikipedia does this)

Off page SEO consists of gaining quality inbound links from authority sites. Quality trumps quantity when looking for links.

This is kind of a small side project testing actually in Spanish language one of the most competitive industries...
Longtail Pro gave me KC 19 and 20 in Spanish (in English they are ~45 and up)

Articles are written by a South-American writer who has experience for this industry, articles are written with a keyword density of 1%- 2% for ~500-700 words (20 articles to start with) and these are passing copyscape premium and they really are Useful for the readers.

Spanish language does bring some challenges for blog commenting, social bookmarking, etc. as there are not as many available as in English...

For on-page SEO I always use Wordpress SEO by Yoast (and I think I should have the correct settings)

For SERP I use SERPFOX (keywords are not showing yet in "G" as the website was launched 4 days ago with new domain).

BTW, does affiliate links count as qualifying Outbound links? If not, Should they be cloaked with for example Pretty link?

Where I see my biggest weakness really is the backlinking and especially how to get high quality backlinks....Should I try to "get" a few High PR links?
I do have Scrapebox with a set of private proxies, so I might try that as well, there are some good videos explaining the features

I know, I should study that part to get better understanding, could anyone suggest some good reading which would be up to date with all the big G latest bears and birds???

Focus on quality content for both your on-page and off page SEO.

You should always come up with unique and very handy content for your site as well as for your backlinking/SEO campaign. And also as much as possible, try to do content that will make it viral online.

Try to mix your SEO campaign with social media marketing as well. Good luck!

Start with social media submission, get accounts on facebook, stumbleupon and pinterest
And share some of your content

Then let it stay for couple of days, maybe 1-2 weeks, then by some HQ links if you want

Focus on keyword research do not target high competition keywords. choose medium volume keywords.

make sure your keywords are the best for your website, and then promote your website with high quality website backlinks.

Quality articles, with reasonable (quality, niche targeted) back-link on highly respected pages/blog will get your website running at your desired pace. If you have the budget, you might want to consider outsourcing the back-linking and writing aspect to professionals. I'll be very cautious as with the back-links so as not to raise a red flag on your domain.
