The best places for your header tags (h1, h2, h3, etc.) is to use them with your keyword phrases as headlines for your articles and sub headlines for articles on your website or sales pages for example. You also want to make sure they make sense to the reader though, so don't just put them on a page with your keywords if it won't make sense.

As an example if you were targeting Tulsa, Oklahoma Chiropractors for your keyword your headline on the page may read something like this:

Tulsa, Oklahoma Chiropractors Adjusting the City

Later on in the article you may have a paragraph or two and then a sub headline that contains the word again, but differently so like this.

    Find Reliable Tulsa, Oklahoma Chiropractors

    Hope this helps.

      Isn't that "heading size" ?
Or even thought of as "heading hierarchy" (importance)?

If she is referring to header tags, I dunno. That's what I
thought at first. I thought she was asking for what went
in between <head> </head> like meta tags. That would
      be header tags.

But, I do think you may be right on the money and that
must be what she is referring to, heading size h1...h6.
And your answer is right on the money.

        Paul,

Good points. I think the reference is to H1 type header tags and not like header tags where the meta keywords and such goes.

Hi paul was right I did mean header tags H1 etc.
do I only put the header tag H1 in one place on each page? I thought you were meant to place all the header tags on all the text in each page on importance. why would using it sometimes not look right, if it is only shown in the source page, sorry I am most probably not making sense but I am srill confused. paul if I pm you could you look at my site and give me a tiny bit of guidance.
          thankyou helen

            Hello Helen,

I am glad that is what you were looking for. Yes, in most cases you would only want to use the H1 tag in one spot, so your next heading would be H2, then H3, etc. You don't have to use more than one header tag. If your site is built in Wordpress by default they typically make the post title a header tag of some sort (either H1 or H2).

The header tag coding is in the source code, but the actual text that is the header tag is always going to show up on the page that your visitors see. You can't hide that text. So the point is that whatever you use for your header tags you want it to make sense to the reader.

Yes, please feel free to send me a PM. I will be glad to help you!
