Should I delete all my old posts??

Hi,

I have a blog that has 1000's of posts. Google won't let me show adsense because some of the old posts are duplicates. Google won't tell me which posts are causing the problem however. Will it hurt to delete 1000's of (mostly junk) posts from my website? Or will google freak out?
Just trying to get back into adsense again.

Delete all the "mostly junk" posts. You seem to already know the answer.

If you have actually been banned from AdSense, you may find that deleting the duplicate content may not actually get you back in to the program. Reversals of AdSense exclusion seem to be extremely rare from what I've been reading. But I wish you the best with your blog's future.

I haven't been banned from adsense yet. They just gave me a warning and disabled my ads until I fixed the problems. Sounds like I should just axe everything then?

Maybe you should clean up your blog and return to AdSense. Is the revenue decent for you? Is there a simple method you can pinpoint duplicated content to be erased. The long term strategy would be to trim the 'junk' posts then add new, top quality content to the blog. Your rank may fluctuate for awhile, but the blog will only benefit from a deliberate overhaul. Encouraging you not to 'axe' everything.

And there are plenty of other potential revenue streams aside from AdSense. Good luck whatever you decide.

Thanks for the responses!! To be honest the revenue isn't very much. This is actually a google news approved website so most of my traffic comes when I make a post and it goes straight to google news. I don't exactly have years to skim through all the old posts though just to HOPE I get back into adsense. Hmm....

If you want to keep using adsense I would do what they ask as soon as you can. Hire someone to help you. It might not be too hard. I would start with duplicate Titles. Then you could use copyscape to find the rest. If it is all really junk maybe just delete it all or hire someone to update and improve it.

Silly question but why are their duplicate posts? I would imagine Google would still hold something against you for that.

The previous owner allowed users to upload a lot of duplicate (plagiarized) content.
I'm trying to do everything google asks. But they don't tell we what post are duplicate. Will it hurt my site if I axe all the posts from the last 3 years... ?? I will obviously keep the new (quality) posts.

It should not hurt but you could lose thousands of backlinks that way. Of course if the content was junk the backlinks may also be worthless. The only other negative might be if you end up with a very thin site without much content at all. You will likely lose your Google news acceptance. It seems like you just need to bite the bullet, add as much great content as you can and hope for the best.

With plagiarized and duplicate content, you are risking more than adsense. You are risking getting kicked out of Google News. I would delete everything that is plagiarized.

Yes! If Its a Duplicate Content issue, then you have to delete all duplicate posts and reconstruct your website.

No. I would not delete the posts. Set them to draft. Update sitemap and try again for adsense. Once you are back in adsense, you can go through some of those posts. If they are valuable and you can fix the duplicate issue - most likely a meta tag or title issue - then you could slowly re-publish them.

Of course, if the news is old and no longer useful, it may not be worth having. However, since it is a lot of content, if it could be used to build internal page ranking (by fixing then linking some of those articles to newer content) then that is a valuable asset.
