Why am I earning so little on Adsense?

In terms of statistics, I'm averaging about 9,000-11,000 unique visitors per month for my two websites (so split those uniques in two).

Yet, I only earn about $3-$5 per month on adsense?

Should it really be this low?

Depends on the content (Ads) and the commercial intent of your visitors. I can get 25k UV a day from facebook, but it's never with intent to buy from me or click an ad to buy from someone else.

Is there any viable alternatives to making easier cash from websites?

I mean, I heard of this thing called "selling ads" but don't know anything about it.

Again people won't "buy" the ad space, if the traffic won't want to buy their product, or even click through for that matter.

Maybe make your own product that's related to the traffic your getting.

Some ad selling sites will allow you to sign up and add your site/description and then put code onto your site which automatically shows ads from buyers who pay to advertise on your site. This will vary from one site to another but could be a good alternative to just trying to monetize with Adsense.

Its your niche...either adsense doesn't have any good advertisers in your niche or your niche is just a very low cpc. If I were you Id try to find some niche-targeted offers like clickbank or other affiliate offers. Even selling ad space you still have to produce decent CTR and sales numbers for your client or they wont renew their ads.

It also depends from what country you get your visitors. And also how good click rate you get. What is your CTR?

without knowing your CTR we're kind of just guessing. My assumption is that your ads aren't targeted and you're not getting clicks....and when you do they're low-paying.

some niches just dont work on adsense...and even further, some niches are incredibly easy to get traffic to but incredibly hard to monetize.

You can google or some average numbers - or search on WF. If you assume 1% CTR and $0.10 payment per click you're not far off from those figures. I don't see anything particularly strange in your earnings, but neither of the numbers I used is that good.

Maybe you're able to optimize it a bit, maybe you're not.

Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

I have a lot of the same problem I get traffic but very few clicks and most of the time the adsense ads have nothing to do with my site contents.

I mean Google is running Hostgator ads all over my sites.

How do you get them to use more targeted ads?
