Internal Recripocal linking confusion.

I added a realted posts plugin. It does so with a nofollow attribute.

My main homepage rose over 200 places since doing so.

I guess it will have harmed the rankings of my post pages because they are all linking via nofollow.

Is it bad to have them linking back and forth without nofollow?

Would it be silly of me to undo what I did?

THis is my most confusing SEO question ever. I get a 200 rank increae but am now more confused than ever.

Nothing wrong with interlinking between internal pages of your site as long as you don't go crazy with it (ex. probably don't want more than 20-30 links per page, and the links should make sense). In your example, linking to about 5 related posts and allowing for following should be just fine. On the homepage of your site, I would exercise a little more caution and maybe not show related posts there (don't mess with something that is working especially with the homepage).

  • Interlinking is essential to get your website crawled and you should use no follow sparingly. If you have navigation links to old posts do NOT no follow these as it helps the SE's find/spider and rank these pages better. Just don't have multiple links to the same destination/page otherwise duplicate content is an issue...use redirects if that happens.
