50k Unique Visitors But Only $100/month in Adsense

It's depends upon what niche you are working on. Clicks rate are vary through niches. Suppose you have Wallpapers website then you'll get very few of bucks for clicks, where as if you are having Making money or Health niche then chances of higher ctr will be at it's top.

Where are your ads located on your website? Ad placement on a website is very important. You can try to experiment and figure out where your hot zones are and also when it's best to use text vs image ads or both.

The ad is paced in the top of the sidebar. That is the only ad.

It's obvious you don't keep up with marketing trends. The banner ad had been on the decline for some time now. Conversion rates are as low as 1%. 50,000 unique visitors may only result in 500 clicks. Multiply that by the rate and there you have it.

How many people do you know that actually click on banners? When was the last time you've clicked on one? Do you really expect viewers to do something that you won't do yourself?

It may be time to rethink your strategy.

Yeah, I can see that. Adsense is a small part of monetizing my site. I just wanted to see if I could tweak it.

Not having any trouble with people clicking my banners... it's obvious you don't keep up with adsense strategy.

btw OP, sidebar banners are the most ineffective places to put adsense banners....they should go in your content

Cool. I'll have to try some new placement. I had a nice WP plugin that inserted ads into every article but then I realized it conflicted with other plugins and it made my site act weird... so I had to delete it. I just haven't had the time/motivation to go back and manually insert ads into all my existing articles.

Should the ads go randomly inside the article or is there a better place to put them?

I use WP insert plugin... top of content banner and middle content banner (wrap text) is where I put mine.

I sold off my sidebar adsense banner to a direct advertiser because it was making like 10% of what my other 2 banners are

Yes, ad placement is critical. Story time: On an old site of mine, I got steady traffic new and returning (50/50 exact). I wanted to increase ad revenue of course. The current ad placement was in the sidebar and on various parts of the forums. This worked fine, but moving the ad on just the front page to the main content really helped--but I didn't stop there. Although Chitika has crap for payouts, they have one thing correct: when to show ads. Chitika ads won't always show up, so to keep your users from getting used to the site, you move the ads around dynamically (PHP or cached versions depending on the time of day). One page load an ad may show up in the content, the next it may show up near the navigation, or not at all. This really draws attention to the ads because they're inconsistent.

I must emphasize though, I only had ONE ad on any page as I do not like ads. But I did a test several years ago with a page with three ads and the same exact page (URL and everything), but with one ad. The impressions and CTR were roughly the same, what was interesting though, was that the amount per click was substantially higher (2 - 4x as high). I was using adsense and I'm not sure if this is Google's way of encouraging a less ad filled web presence for users or just chance. But I tested it and the results were clear. I really wish I had the actual traffic data and not just the Adsense earnings for data interpretation.

Yes I agree with some of the others. Try placing the ads within the content but what is really important is to do it in such a way that it blends with the theme and your content.

I don't know what type of content your website has or type of visitors your receive but I've seen strategies on different websites that makes the ads look like they are actually part of the content (eg. Colours of the ads) and makes the viewer click on it without realising it's an ad.

If you look at some torrent sites they actually do this quite well.
Also do you have a Youtube channel? You can also create some videos so you can earn some money via Adsense.

I have other suggestions, PM me if you like. I'm no expert (I didn't even know who Matt Cutts was until I came to this forum hahaha), but I believe it's all trial and error and spending time analysing your traffic rather than listening to everyone's strategies. What may work for one site doesn't necessarily mean it will work on another. Use Google webmaster tools to work out where most of your traffic is arriving and then leaving your site. Capture these visitors and SEIZE the moment.

If thats the only ad then increasing the amount might help :p.

With 50k plus visitors though I'd be spending a lot of time on a/b testing to really get the most out of my ad placements! All the best

try to place ads on space places where user feel that it is contetn but not ads like place content in image shape and in same space later ads it as ads as well..

With more than 10,000+ per month you can earn hundreds easily with Affiliate marketing... My recommendation is to start working for a company like Clickbank, Amazon and earn comissions per sale... You will earn much more than this ADSENSE...

Put a big fat adsense box in the top-left of every article.

Then put another box with no border and link colors similar to navigation in the middle of the article. (not sure of google's recent TOS on this one, heh)

Did this to blogs posting public domain materials and they're doing quite nicely.

This is correct. Top left of content (so that content wraps around) is one of the best placements for adsense.

And to the guy saying banner ads are on decline, that is laughable. Banner ads have always been popular and still are. I have no trouble getting 3-4% CTR on ads.

It varies HEAVILY on niche, but in my experience with few different niches, I can say about 1,000 visitors equaled roughly $10. So with 50k visitors, I think you should be able to get at least a few hundred dollars.

I would say your earnings are right on par. I had a 150k uniques and was only make $200-300 on adsense. And I tested with ALL banners. Horizontal, vertical, square, top of content, middle of content, end of content. I would say the square ones do better. And then to use an end of content one and in-content one.

But at the end of the day, there are much better ways to monetize than Adsense. I sell my own products now and make so much more money that Adsense could have ever paid me.

your earning depends on CPC and CTR.
for CPC, it is difficult for be raised because it depends on the target country and also its niche.
However, CTR could certainly be raised. good and safe CTR in my opinion is 1 - 2.5%
imagine, if your blog CTR and CPC eg 1.5% 12:10
1.5% x 50000 x 0.1 and WOW, the result is 75 USD / day: D
My CTR 1.5 - 2.5% with a layout like this

Isn't placing the AdSense code in a sidebar is neat enough?
There your reader could realize it too, anyway 50K unique visitors with $100 per month is low.
