YouTube High Retention Views

I noticed it's not so easy to rank YT videos even in long tail KWs ... Back linking doesn't seem to help. Are high retention views the key?

Backlinking doesn't work, because backlinks to a YT video are quite useless. They
    are backlinks to youtube.

Backlink your youtube channel. That's a real page.

Embed videos on SEO'd pages, social share, etc.

How many view the video all the way through might affect rankings. So,
I myself have started to make shorter videos. The longer the video,
more likely for someone to surf out.

Make the video engaging. Get to the point. I myself surf out after
a even a few seconds of rambling...

    Pages rank, not videos.

Build good backlinks to the page that the video is on.

It DOES NOT matter that Youtube pages are dynamic, a HUGE percentage of the web is dynamic (welcome to 2011).

That Youtube channel page is also dynamic, I guarantee Youtube is pulling that page content from a custom built CMS database. Nobody builds millions & millions of static webpages.

That's true about the dynamic page, but it's not your typical dynamic page. Most
dynamic pages are somewhat static, but the generated page your video might come up on
is probably changed or tweaked every time, as new or old videos come and go.

A dynamic page can be static, just gets created on the fly, but the content remains
the same. Not the case on youtube.

It's no different than any other site/blog that rotates related internal links/content.

The Youtube video page is still a webpage & still has a Google Cache (example (PR6)).

        Webpages are ranked with links.

Youtube is pulling all the content on their pages from a database. It's a typical CMS.

So are high retention views one of the biggest components of getting one YT video ranking over another?

YT looks a lot these days at length of time someone watches the video when they determine rankings.. obviously their first priority is user experience.

I read that in a few places ... Seems like high retention views are more important than backlinks etc
