I have an 'articles' page on my website which is basically a list internal links pointing to my own articles (which also reside on the same website site)...I add new articles on a weekly basis...

This list is currently about 40 links long pointing to 40 of my articles....now is google going to see this as a mini link farm? or can I carry on adding to this article link list page until its a few hundred links long?

Are they pages in your site or off your site?

If it's inside your site it's no harm done but make sure to label them something like "Favourite Articles" or "Articles you Should Read"

I wouldn't go more than 40 if I were you.

All links point to articles on my website.

If its no harm done then why wouldnt you do more than 40 links?

Should I split them up onto to numerous pages or something? ie. Articles page 1, Articles page 2 etc. each with say 40 links?

What's the point in having like 50 links on a page to other pages?

Do you really think your readers would like that?

here's a great example of how to do it properly.

So that google will index the articles?

Surely I need at least SOME link pointing to a new article that I add in order for google to become aware that the article actually exists?

maybe I can group them date ie. have a list of links on a seperate page per month.

          Page title would be..

a link farm is a bunch of sites, not just a page on one site.

As long as it's on the same domain it's simply a HTML sitemap for users and isn't a problem. For the convenience of users you may want to break it up or categorize the articles into sections but it doesn't matter so far as Google is concerned.
