Why Can't I Find Links on a Page When a BL Checker Says They're There?

I was looking at the backlinks of one of my competitors to see the competition and I went to check out some of the sites my software said the competitor's website was getting backlinks from and yet I can't find the links to their pages on a few of these sites after using a link checker plugin to ID all the links on a page. What could account for this?

    The backlink checker data is outdated.

    The backlinks were deleted after the 3rd party backlink bot crawled the page. If the backlink bot ever crawls the old page where the link has been deleted they'll most likely update their data.
