Opinions on Lead Gen Site

What is your view on optimizing a site for lead gen (insurance, loans, health) when your target audience is in multiple states?

Would you create/build several local based sites targeting the city and/or /state ?

or would you build one 1 site targeting say 3-4 states?

Any studies to support one way or the other?

I am starting to side with 4-5 smaller local sites, in case one or two gets penalized, you still got 2-3 working for you in the other states.

The only issue is you meed to invest more with those extra sites.

I believe brands can get away with it but the small guys need it to be niche local specific?
I haven't seen case studies of smaller guys working out as well the past few years.

Does your offer differ based on different states? If no, put them all under 1 page.

If yes, I would create 1 page for each state. Don't bother going for the sub-domain route. It will not be worth it.

      nope, one product/service fits all.

I don't see non-brands (real companies) in the serps

for example, "car insurance for teenager phoenix" all brands and a high d/a site in there not even local until 3rd page
