Paid Traffic To Membership Site - Advice Please

Can anyone point me to any training, resources, books, sites, general advice or just plain tell me:

How do I research which search terms my target audience are putting into search engines? I want to place ads in front of them but don't really know how to find the suitable search terms. I'm sure this is a common issue

Secondly, any advice or training on how to write the little ads appropriate to the search term targeted?

I'm sure there will be plenty in here. I am a War Room Member so if there is anything in there I can get it. I have used the Samurai software but only to research search terms for SEO purposes. I no longer have the software by the way (had the free/trial version multiple times)

Your help is as always appreciated. I do need to reach a specific type of person to join the membership site (still under construction). I have been running it by e-mail for over a year and have enough members. Going to automate it now and used paid traffic to grow.

Thanks again, Rick

    Hi Rick,

You can find search terms in Google Keyword Planner tool.

Also, I recommend you not to just rely on the results you get in the keyword planner, but also to search for other popular terms in forums and websites related to your niche.

I don't know what niche you want to market and how familiar you are with it, but if you are still learning the niche, there might be slang words and phrases you haven't heard of that you can find in different communities.

Regarding the ads writing, to figure out what works I would simply split test several copies and also follow what copy other advertisers are using and if their ads stay permanent for long periods of time. If they are then it's only logical they convert.

    Hope that helped!

    Good luck,

    Danit

      Many thanks for the reply

I am an expert with 25+ years experience in the niche in the offline world

I can use the Keyword Planner and Market Samurai quite well

The question I am asking myself is:

which of the many search terms that my potential customers (for a membership site) enter into Google would indicate they are really searching for a service not just for free information or 'how to' guides?

What I was really trying to find out is whether there is some way to research this question using the tools.

Anyway, since posting, I have decided to offer an affiliate program to members only and will encourage them to drive new members. This may be more effective than Adwords any way. (SEO is not going to be much use and I am not focusing on climbing rankings)

        Hi Rick,

The best way to answer this question is to simply split test your paid traffic.

If you are going to use Google search / display network then you can add a tracking code inside the "thank you page" (which is the page that only people who purchase your service/ product can access).

That way, Google will be able to "record" that a sale has occurred.

You can also link your adwords account to analytics account to know exactly which ad converted.

If you are aiming for serious amount of traffic and you have a big budget for the campaign, I would try to look for recommendations on a PPC campaign manager to set it up and manage it for you (or you can follow Google's explanations in the help center).

If you are looking to buy media through other websites, you will need to see which tracking tools they provide and you can also use PPC Affiliate Tracking Software | Tracking202

        Hope that helps.

wow, thanks! that is an incredibly helpful answer

          can I be your fan?

tracking where the buyers come from is a great idea

and I just realised that if I do lots of searches myself I will see where other people are advertising similar services that will give me a clue, then I can search those terms in KW Planner and Samurai to see the CPC

most important is trying to get the ad in front of the right crowd as there will only be a specific group that will sign up and make use.

At least I have some idea what I am supposed to do. I am prepared to spend a fair bit to get a customer signed up because it will be recurring monthly payments of $30 to $60

thanks so much for engaging with my questions, so kind!

          Hey Danit,

I see your an expert in membership sites, I'm getting ready to launch a membership site.

I'm curious how to sort the content?
Levels Free - Silver - Gold

How do you know which content goes in each category? (I understand, the more in-depth the content, the high the level. But, what constitutes, keeping this content on lower level and putting this content on higher level?)

          Anxious for any tips...Thanks

            Hi David,

Basically as you wrote, the more in-depth the content, the higher the level.

There are many ways to divide the content you offer, here are a few examples:

For the free membership I would give people like a "teaser" information that gives them information about what they need to do in order to... (for example - loose weight). However, if they want to know how to do it, then they would need to register to a paid membership.

You can also divide the levels like this:

Free level - information about your niche

            Paid level - useful tools and resources/ one-on-one consulting calls/ closed forum/ master-mind groups/ live webinars/ case studies etc.

There are many forms to the valuable content you can provide your members with, it really depends on what you want to offer them and how much time you want to dedicate to your membership site.

Hope that gave you some ideas to start with

            Good luck!

      thanks

      1. who are they?

      2. It's not about budget, it's about deciding on which search terms to target. There are hundreds of terms the target audience might use

'suck it and see' is not my style so I am interested in developing a method, or using someone elses, to try and interpret the numbers the keyword tools produce to see if I can get a narrower range of terms to target

Tip: negative keywords - search for a list of negative keywords. These words will help avoid displaying ads for people looking for free sht. Google negative keyword list Adwords or something similar.
