Trying to rank blogger/wordpress blog

What are some strategies that people have been using to aid in ranking free blogs?

Nothing too pocket busting or anything short and quick.

I am aiming for a way to sustain consistent growth and exposure for a blog that I will allow to inccubate for about 6-12 months. This way I can begin to see results.

So, along with posting quality and engaging content, what else would allow me to climb the ranks for a term that is not very competitive.

    I would suggest using some social campaigns (social bookmarks and social shares). If you don't want to outsource it you don't have it; try reaching out to people in your niche, get to know others and they may be able to help you out with reaching their followers.

    - It's always best if you can promote your blog naturally and keep building links as an after thought

    though this said quite often it helps to have a support campaign too benefit your link profile and add some selective authority links. I would suggest going for press releases, community shares, and document slideshare links. we always try to aim for multiple promotional/backlinking purposes meaning you want links that can send you traffic too (though not necessary always - depends) though these kind of links will really help for your blog

    The first thing would be to get your own domain. That way you have full control over your URLs and you can just take the site elsewhere if need arises. Other than that it's just a normal site, you can do whatever you would normally do.
