Hi
I was reading how to find good directory to submit to and how to use ahrefs.com to check on URL and Domain Rank, number of Backlinks and Referring Domains,Anchor Phrases.
In my opinion everything looks ok except number of total refering domains and number of total refering pages.
Total Refering Domains - You can see there is no info before 03.09.2013.
Total Refering Pages - there is first high drop on 12.03.2013. and second 22.02.2014.

Take a look at info.jpg for more information and tell me what do You think.
#directory #submit #website

I wouldn't get any directory links these days, they are all on the way out and trigger penalties for people all of the time.

Not true. There are some that will help your website like DMOZ, Yahoo Directory and BOTW.

The biggest directories may help you a bit, but obviously we're talking about something else here.

However, DMOZ is impossible to get into and Yahoo is not worth the money. They have so many links in their more popular categories that there's not much link juice for any individual link. Even though these directories are well kept-up and somewhat trusted your link may end up on a page that has nothing to do with your industry/niche.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

        What's your excuse?

Wasting time and money on the directories you mentioned negates the benefit received by them.

You can allocate those resources elsewhere and see a huge difference in your rankings. So again, directories are a waste of time and the example provided in this thread is just asking for trouble.

I contacted 5 SEO companies from a top 50 link builder list and all of them recommend/use directory (selected directories) links.

P.S. Take advise from a proven professional.

So you've taken company names from an affiliate marketing article, and random sample of those companies used this method as a part of their offering? I'm not too impressed by that kind of argument.

Supposed professionals do all sorts of weird crap. If they've promised to deliver a certain number of backlinks this'll fill the quota nicely. It certainly doesn't say anything about the efficiency of the method.

It's not an affiliate marketing article. Where do you come up with this stuff?

I'm not trying to impress you lol.

Their clients are proof that they know what they are doing.

This forum is really amusing sometimes. The advise given is funny as hell.

The fact that they have clients proves that they have clients. Top companies is such a vague claim that it doesn't really mean anything, and 1/10 of some random list is a pretty small sample in any case.

Do you really think that your lolling and dismissive BS will compensate for the lack of an argument?

Seriously, if you want to discuss directories, lets discuss them. Lets start from the fact that most links on almost any of those pages get practically no link juice, because Google splits it somewhat evenly among all the links. You can mail those companies and ask their reply to this question. You can then take the potential directory page, count the number of links, and estimate wether you get any real SEO benefit. Then compare your own results to their answer.

This is somewhat complex stuff and Google of course is completely opaque, but PR is not some magic pixie dust. The characteristics are fairly well known, and back-of-the-envelope calculations show if the link opportunity makes any sense.

Individual link might not be completely worthless, but it's likely not worth paying anything. If you get dozens of them, you might get somewhere. However, then you also risk getting your links on questionable sites, and even having penalties on your site.

Still no argument, just a weak attempt at a silly comeback. If you insist I can shred those lines to pieces too, but suffice to say that distorting my words does not make an argument.

Usually I'd tell you to forget about it, but that site actually seems to have pretty decent stats (according to Majestic SEO). And they're staying in one niche.

Of course, it's still a cheap-looking directory site built on a dropped domain.

Funny thing...the big websites I follow and analyze all have links in dmoz and yahoo directory. There must be a reason they have links there. Good SEO companies don't do things that have no benefit.

There is a reason why they have links there. But it aint because they pay to have them
there or submit them. And that is what us poor shmucks must do.

You think DMOZ or yahoo would not have something like amazon.com?

And if you think amazon is paying $299 each year to be listed, or submitted
their site to DMOZ, you live in a parallel universe.

I have my oldest site listed. I got that at least 15 years ago when it was free.
I have that url forwarded to a money site. yahoo probably contributes
10 cents a year, if that, to my bottom line.

I'd call the DMOZ The Artist Formerly Known as Prince Directory: I'm gonna
      search like it's 1999.

It looks like you've got it all figured out. Are you selling SEO services? Can I be a client?
