Paid traffic to site targeting high CPC keywords, has anyone done it?

Hi,

The other day I stumbled across a site listing all the highest paying Adsense keywords (for example "Asbestos Lawyers" for 105.84$).
I have tried Adsense in the past and made like 800$ out of it (with low CPC keywords, paying something like 0.30 or 0.40$ per clic) so I know a little bit how Adsense works.

I was wondering... Would it make sense to build up a site targeting one of this high CPC keyword and get some paid traffic to it?
I would obviously not try to build a blog only relying on organic SERP ranking for such "Absestos Lawyers" keyword, I'm pretty sure it's over competitive... But what about if I get paid traffic to that site, say with Facebook Ads or others? 105.84$ spent on Facebook Ads would hopefully get me enough visitors to get not one but two or three clicks on my Ads, thus refunding the Facebook Ads cost.

Is it a stupid idea?

Has someone tried it?

Maybe there is something that I am missing? Like
• It's not conform to Google guidelines?
• I will never get paid 105.84$ for a click?
• these high CPC ads will never be displayed on my site?
• Since this is a very niche thing, I will have no one clicking my ads, so, no traffic at all to my site?

I'm waiting for your feedback. I'm pretty sure this wouldn't work, and that I'm missing some point here, but as I'm not an expert, I'd like to know what you think of this idea?

Nicolas

That is called "traffic brokering" and yes you can do it, but it is not an easy game, you need to be extremely good at buying traffic, but I have personally known just one person who has done it sucessfully

It's called arbitrage. You're basically playing the margins. Ask.com does it. I'm sure there are others. I know it is a violation of AdWords policy, but I don't know about AdSense.

      Hi Nicolas,

Sorry, you got some bad information.

The site you referred to seems to be listing the advertiser costs to advertise on search result pages, not websites selling ad space through the AdSense display network. Those are 2 very different networks and the CPC is very different on those separate networks.

For example, I check the CPC for "Asbestos Lawyers" using the AdWords Display Planner tool and it shows historical CPC of $0.00-$1.00 for that keyword. That's a far cry from the "105.84$" you quoted.

So if I can purchase traffic on the display network for $1.00, your cut will be less than $0.70 for that traffic.

While it is possible to make money through arbitrage, it is a thin margin and you are more likely to lose money in the process.

        Hi
I've just checked in Keyword Planner, for USA and english, and I got 38 euros, which would be a bit higher than 50$... so much more than 0-1$ you've seen...
Is it something I'm doing wrong?

Anyway thanks to all the answers, Its pretty clear that It can be done, might be against Google guidelines and might not bring money as I was expecting...

        N.

          Hi dburk,
Could you let me know what I did wrong?
I found as I said for something like 50 dollars, not 1 dollars as you said...
          Nicolas.

            Hi nicolasodc,

It seems you may be confusing the Search Network with the Display Network, they are not the same thing. Google owns both, but CPC prices are not the same because advertisers bid differently on each network.

You are using the wrong tool. The Keyword planner is for the Google Search Network, not for the Display Network. The Keyword Planner shows you prices for ads on Google Search pages, not your own website. You do not own Google, therefore you cannot sell ad space on Google Search.

Google does have a Display Network, which is completely separate from their search network. You can sell ad space on your website through the AdSense program which serves the ads on the Display Network, your website becomes part of that network. The CPC on the Display Network is based on what advertisers are willing to pay for traffic from that network, and in particular what they are willing to pay for traffic from your particular web page/website.

To get an indication of CPC for ad space on the Display Network you can use the AdWords Display Planner tool. This is the same tool that advertisers use to research topics and websites where they can bid for ad space on the Display Network. This tool will give you a range of historical bids for ad space on the Display Network, which is where you "can" sell ad space.

When you check CPC on the Display Network using the proper tool you will see the CPC is $1 or less, not $50.

Oh and by the way... is that 50 dollars click easy to get? If I put up a site, will I get 50 dollars for each click (providing I get people to my site somehow)? Or does it also depend on my site's authority and so on?
I mean it shouldnt depend on the authority of my site, right? as long as someone clicks on my link and goes to their page, the result for them is the same, no?

I have lot of experience in adsense websites. Arbitrage using adwords and adsense is very risky however you can get the traffic from Bing, 7search etc to your adsense websites. However do not expect big profit margins. The only way to make good money with adsense websites is to do SEO and generate free organic visitors.

If PPC is going to be the only source of your traffic, then you are asking for trouble. Drive some social media traffic and gain some repeat visits through the quality of your contents. High Bounce rate and high CTR in adsense ads are red signal to google and they will deeply scrutinize your account, then you might be banned for the reason using MFA sites. (ie.Made for adsense)

Yeah, it won't work. You have some good thoughts though, I've seen some people do similar things with media buys, but really the best way to make money from adsense is through SEO, I've found it gives me the best ROI.
