Ranking woocomerce product pages

I'm having a real problem ranking woocomerce product pages. Anyone have any tips or possible pitfalls to avoid?
The strange thing is that I can rank blog posts on the same site really easy. In fact the homepage gets a lot of impressions compared to similar sites. I can post a blog page and it almost always ranks top 20 straight away for targeted kw's.
However if I make a new product and use the same strategy to rank it as the blog posts (kw density, article length, url, meta etc) it rarely even gets into the top 100.
This isn't an issue with competitiveness as even obscure, non competitive search terms struggle to rank in top 100.
