On a 1,000 words article no more than 2% USE LSI keywords.

When I write article, I generally target one or at the most two long tail keywords and it had worked for me well enough. (I can give you some real example if you want to.)
Talking abou secondary keywords or more technically LSI keywords, I do not target them. They naturally come in my mind while writing articles and thats it. This is a good habit though.
      What do you think?

Well what I think does not matter. Every niche is different, every keyword ranking is different and could require different numbers. In the case the OP the base I use, to answer the question.

Now, what I do is I try to avoid long tail keywords. I actually ask my writers to focus on the seed keyword, and push LSI or long tails within the content. If you play a little devil's advocate with what I posted you will be wow.

I have written a lot of articles and it seems that KW density rules are slowly dying out. When you write naturally, you will include LSI keywords in the mix and Google will notice. I include a keyword (usually a 2 or 3 word phrase) 1 to 2 times unless it is vital to the content. For example, if the keyword is "social media management," I might add it in more if it is needed within the article.

I have had clients ask for 3 keywords to all be include with a 3 - 4 percent density each. Typically, these articles will not rank well at all. However, I have written articles with a keyword placed in them once or twice that have ranked just fine before SEO. Obviously, we are not talking about an impossible keyword to rank, but keywords that do drive traffic to client's websites.

I fully agree with evilclown (hey I know you) that 2 percent is the max at this point.

I pick one main keyword phrase per blog post / article and let the rest happen naturally. Definitely don't spam your keyword phrase over and over in the article but maybe use it twice... Just what I do, your results may vary.
