50% of site's referrals are own URL

I just got access to a new clients Google Analytics accounts, and when looking at the site's referrals over 50% of them are from the site's own domain but without the www. Given that all the other referrals are in the single digits for %, I think this could really be skewing the information.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Should I filter all other reports and views to remove the www references?

Thanks

First of all solve the www issue.... then check for analytics installation. If you have put anlaytic code two time(in header & footer) then it generally happens.

Ensure that the site can only be accessed by one version - either http://www. or simply http:// - this is your starting point, which should solve your problem.

As previously mentioned either have http://www. or http:// having multiple versions will confuse Google as it thinks you have two website.

I would advise picking the version that has more inbound links to it (www or non-www). Then 301 redir the one that has less links to the one that has more.

Does google really not consider the www. and non www. as the same site? I figured they would be sophisticated enough to combine them without having to 301 the other.

Nope. Amazingly they consider them separate still.
