Acquiring expired domains?

Hi,

I have zero experience in buying domains of GoDaddy auction, but just recently won a couple of them. I'm looking to dig deeper into building a PBN over the next few months.

I've read that for PBN, it's best to register domains under different (fake) names. How do you guys go about it if you win the domain at, say, GoDaddy Auctions? I know they automatically register it under my account anyway. Do you just transfer the domain later to some other $1 hosting service provider? How much the transfer usually cost?

Any further tips are also very much appreciated!

Thank you.

I would not register them under fake names. I would use the WhoIs privacy.

The problem with fake names is if you ever are asked to verify anything with GoDaddy, you risk losing the domain.

Thanks for the tip, Mike. However, is there such a thing as GoDaddy asking to verify a domain? In all my years registering domains, and with the amount I have, I've never had that happen to me. Have you?

As to the other part of the question, if I do register privacy for it, is it safe to leave it on my GoDaddy account, or do I still need to transfer it? This option, of course, would be the most convenient.

It has happened the same number of times that I have had domains deindexed for being registered under the same name.

Definitely use fake registration contact information in leiu of private who.is.

I ran an experiment on a test network last year. Each PBN site had private who.is. Over the course of 2 weeks, I gradually removed each private option and replaced it with a unique fake registration. Rankings shot up just from doing this.

          To setup a fake registration:
          1) Create a fake hotmail account or buy a batch of 1000 for about $5-10 from various places online
          2) Enter in a unique Name, email, address, phone number and record it in an XLS
          3) Log in to the associated hotmail account and click the "Verify" email sent by GoDaddy

About hosting, I use individual hosts for each domain. There is no transfer needed. Your registrar remains GoDaddy, but you get hosting else where. All you need to do is update the nameservers at GoDaddy.

          Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip, sounds good! However, won't I receive the verify information to my older email, which is attached to GoDaddy's account as that is what I've registered with for GoDaddy Auctions? How exactly do I prevent GoDaddy from adding my current info to this newly acquired expired domain? I haven't yet paid for them after winning, waiting for a more thorough response.

You get a confirmation email to the address you're changing it to.

You get a notification email (that doesn't need to be replied to) to your old address.

You're current info is going to be added right away and will stay that way until you change it. But as long as you change your contact information before you link to your money site, you're fine.

            Beware!
Using Fake whois is against ICANN's rule. It can result in cancellation of your domain name anytime.

I am registering stuff under various business/trust names. Host them all on different hosts. I am picking various $1 hosts to keep them on different IP addresses. My understanding is that Google has wised up to the domains being on the same block as with SEO hosting so that MAY not be such a good idea.

So if you win on GoDaddy Auctions, you have to make the transfer from there to your new host + you need to change the WHOIS registrar (is that easy?) since I'm sure GoDaddy will immediately slap your account's name (your real name) on this new domain you just won?

No, change the Whois in your Godaddy account, only host ay the new host. I don't like to have to go all over the place to find my domains. It is bad enough to have to go all over the place to do anything with my blogs. I try to keep a record of it all on an Excel file though. All you need to do is enter the Domain Name Server (DNS) in your Godaddy account under that domain.

Hi, I have bought quite a few domains through the Godaddy Auctions for my PBN. When I do register them with Godaddy I go with the Privacy. I don't change my name for those.

I actually prefer to use Namescheap.com now, and I do a mix of Privacy and if you will "Pen Names", depending on whether its my money site or my feeder sites in my PBN. I do just like DiggitySEO said and I get multiple Email accounts for registrations and then forward them to a main email I can manage or have a VA do.

While the Auctions are great, it can also become expensive very fast. Try searching for Expired Domains that are ready to be registered. No auctions, No bidding! Thats how I get 90% of my domains.

I use the ExpiredDomains.net and Moonsy.com. I usaully don't really care too much about PR. I just make sure the site has a couple dozen relavent backlinks and refferring domains, the more the merrier. I also make sure that I really focus in on the Page Authority(PA) and Domain Authority(DA) used by Moz.com (Opensiteexplorer.com)

If your looking for a good reference for the Moz Metrics that I follow for my domains.

    Minimum Metrics I would Except
    Opensiteexplorer.com
    PA >=25
    DA>=10-15
    MozTrust >=4.5

    MajesticSEO (optional)
    Backlinks
    Citation Flow
    Trust Flow

I use Ahrefs.com to check the backlinks and the anchor text used and try and make sure its relevant. Don't by sites with a spammy link profile, porn, gambling, pills, etc. Also I don't by site with Chinese backlinks.

Hopefully this helps you get going on your PBN. If you have any question feel free to ask.

      mcsdguyian, thanks!

When you win a domain in GoDaddy Auctions and decide to change the name (rather than use Privacy), do you transfer it to NameCheap and then change WHOIS credentials, or do you leave it on GoDaddy and change there?

If it's the former, how do you avoid GoDaddy slapping your real name on the domain right after you pay for it?

    Hi
I also buy expired domain names on go daddy. I am looking for PR6 sites only now to add to my bookmarking sites.
I have setup a postal box and use this for the address in my go daddy account.
The phone number listed is my real business number.
Interesting though i had a phone call from a guy who said he wanted to buy one of my websites, he found my info from whois.
Am not looking to sell any of my sites, but the one he wanted was pretty new so was happy to pass it on
    thanks

I have a PBN and the way I usually go about my process is after doing my research on a domain i want in auctions (majestic , ahrefs, check pr , age , backlinks , etc) I bid on it . Once its transferred to my account i get cheap hosting with another host for a dollar or 2 a month. I go in Godaddy change name servers to cheap host . You want to change to a different hosting bc the varying of domain ips help you rank . If you have PBN on 1.1.1.1 and it point to money site 1.1.1.1 even if its a different domain it still shows your sending links to yourself. So change to some cheap hosting. Then I use Generate a Random Name - Fake Name Generator to give me a fake name , email ,and address to change my whois in godaddy . This is the free way getting private whois when you have a lot of domains can be expensive.

    basically

    1. Check domain
    2.Buy Domian
    3.Get Cheap Hosting
4.Change name servers to cheap hosting
    5. use fakenamegenerator.com to change whois ( or buy private )

In the end you have a PBN site with a different ip , different hosting , and different whois as your money site this is the best way to go . I have ranked customers in as little as a few days using my PBN sites this way.
