Interesting, 301 redirect from irrelevant domain

This is not a case study as i don't want to reveal my domains, just want to share an experience.

I made a 301 redirect from 2 totally irrelevant domains, to an innerpage of a money site of mine.

After the redirect the inner page stopped ranking completely and the homepage took it over.

Rankings for the main keywords improved from page 3 to page 2 so that was interesting (site didn't have any link building for 1 month).

What I think what happened is this:

- redirect was from irrelevant domains so relevancy of inner page got diluted by all these new anchors or perhaps inner page even got penalized.

- the juice flowed from the inner page (which is relevant to the rest of the site) to the homepage and everywhere else and thus the homepage started to rank.

What you think?

ps: Site is now ranking at page 3 for the domain name of one of the redirected domains, not ranking for the domain name from the other domain.

Any idea why that would be? Perhaps Google has some new limitation in place that it only passes juice from one redirect or perhaps one of the high PR domains deals with a penalty already? Who shall say.

Just wanted to share it!
