Question about finding keywords

I'm sorry if this is a lame question but I'm confused about finding keywords.

I run a travel site and I want to start writing more articles. I'm trying to do everything I can to have good on-page SEO. How do I go about choosing keywords for my articles? I'm not trying to sell anything and I'm not really concerned about high CPC keywords -- but I want to choose the best keywords so I can attract as much traffic as possible.

Basically, I want to 1). choose the best keywords based on an article I want to write (e.g. day trips from Paris) and 2). find high traffic keywords to give me ideas for articles to write.

I'm sure there are already guides to this. Can anyone give me some pointers or point me in the right direction?

    Just write your articles naturally, by doing this the keyword issue will handle it's self.

      Yeah, I agree. I'll still write good content but knowing the best keywords for the subject I write about is important (I assume). A few years back I tweaked some keywords in an article I wrote and a few weeks later I started getting a ton more hits. That small change probably made me $15,000 over the course of two years.
