Why you should only ever pay per click

I have been talking to a few people in the publishing industry as well as traffic suppliers and it seems that a lot of companies are buying fake traffic these days.

People are buying pageviews for anything from 3-5 cents each which are disguised as coming from google serps. The number of views per session and intervals and volume are strictly controlled to fit in very well with legitimate traffic.

These are not basement jockeys doing this, these are big publishing houses with well known brands with big corporate clients who are buying advertising space on
their properties.

Have any of you guys heard about this before?

The traffic they are buying probably isn't "fake" necessarily, it's just not targeted at all. Also, the large websites can do that as long as they make it clear that they aren't guaranteeing targeted traffic for advertisers.

It is fake as I know the suppliers, the advertisers are definitely not told, and it is used for arbitrage.

If you are making 10 cents per pageview (not that hard on a high profile site) you would be mad not to buy some pageviews at 5 cents, and they are buying millions of them.

Any claim or blame or report, shall be substantiated by facts. If many companies are buying fake traffic, there shall be a list of companies, including what exactly happened, and where exactly they have bought fake traffic.

Generalization is insensible and lacks the intellectual acuity (I have taken these words from a dictionary by searching for a word stupid).
    • If lot of companies, which companies are they exactly?
    • If traffic was fake, which particular traffic network has been used?

    Do you know those answers?

I do know the companies involved, and I do know the traffic networks. Since there is this little thing called libel I won't mention names.

This was merely offering other forum members some advice on being careful with ad networks

But thanks for being a patronizing dick thetacrm.

It's OK. But in general, you don't have any resource nor any link to the data you have given?

So there are apparently lot of companies, large, traffic is fake but you don't have any reference?
