Link Prospecting Trouble

So I've created some great 'How-To' content and have been trying to build links with it.

Only problem is, I'm having trouble finding the right prospects. It seems like all the prospects are competitors/really authoritative or pretty darn weak.

Is there anything that you guys have done that has been effective for building links to Step-By-Step resources?

The least expensive way to do it is to analyze your competitors to see where their links come from.

You can use ahrefs, majestic, moz and others to get a list of the sites that link to your competitors.

One you have that list you go after each site and ask for a link to your site. There are several strategies for how to go about asking for a link to your content from someone that links to their content. Here are a couple of the more popular ones:

    1. Create better content than your competitor and inform the site that links to your competitor.
    2. Report a broken link on their site and tell them about your content which covers what they used to link to.

It really helps if you include your phone number when you are asking for a link to your site. Makes you much more credible.

Awesome advice. That sounds like a much better way of going about it than I had been doing. Thanks so much Varz!
