Webmaster Tools for Private Blog Network Sites?

I have a question for owners of private blog networks. Do you sign up for Google Webmaster Tools for all your PBN sites? If yes, how cautious are you with the WMT accounts? Separate email for each? Do you worry about what IP you sign up from? Any other concerns?

The reason I ask is I've noticed a couple expired domains that I've purchased and setup as money sites have been given a manual penalty due to "unnatural outbound links". The WMT message states that the site will not rank as well due to the penalty. Sure enough, I've noticed that the site still ranks but definitely not as well as I'd expect. Also, it is extremely easy to get the penalty lifted with a reconsideration request. Basically just say that you're the new owner and within a couple days they remove the penalty.

This penalty seems to be impossible to detect without signing up for a WMT account unlike the unnatural INBOUND links penalty which is very easy to screen for.

So, do you PBN owners out there sign up for WMT for all your expired domains or is it not worth it?

Just curious, how many and what type of outbound links were you inputting to get that penalty?

For your question though, I would never use webmaster tools for private blogs or expired domains. If I did i would take every step to separate that the gmail account was associated with another, name, email, address and different ip address and also clear your browser cache/cookies.

I wasn't. The owner of the domain before it expired was. I just saw it on two expired domains that I purchased and turned into money sites so I was wondering if it's really common or if it was just coincidence.

I imagine it would have a negative impact if you had several of them in your PBN linking to your money sites so I was just curious to see if others did anything about it or just didn't worry about it.

I *never* put webmaster tools on a PBN site of mine. Think about it. What would be the advantage to that? An owner of a "real" site likes webmaster tools info for the feedback. As a PBN owner, what feedback from Google would be relevant for your situation? I don't care about traffic to my PBN sites (and if I did I could track it by other means), I don't care much about anything except a site's PageRank (or whatever metrics are now more appropriate) and whether the site is still indexed. I don't need webmaster tools for that. By using webmaster tools on each PBN site you're telling Google that all those sites are related. Don't do it.

Let this be a lesson to you. You NEVER, EVER, EVER put these sites in WMT, use Google Analytics, or Adsense.

As a matter of fact, I wouldn't even use a gmail.com address when registering these domains or signing up for hosting.

What you've just done is told Google "Hey Google all of these sites are connected and they are all owned by me."

They do NOT condone webmasters building PBNs. It is arguably "buying links". You are purchasing the domain for the sole purpose of linking back to your site. Adding your site to WMT you have admitted to buying links.

Believe me, there is someone at the Googleplex right now thinking of ways to combat Private Blog Networks. It's going to be a difficult task, but any careless mistake is going to make you a much easier target.

That sounds like an awful idea, registering your PBN domains with Google is just asking for trouble.

You can find signs of trouble on your network without ever adding your domains to WMT. That's just way to much of a red flag.

Regarding your statement about simply telling Google you are a new owner of a website an d removing a penalty is BS. I tried that and it didn't work. Don't count on that approach working.

      Never register with WMT.

I simply register each domain under a different company name.

I also block all third party crawlers except Google and Bing. Third party crawlers discovering your site is a no-no.

I hope you don't have analytics or adsense on them already.

Never create any footprint. That's the way to survive this Google era.

        Hi,
never ever tell google anything about your PBN!!!

        HIDE it!

For ALL of your domains in a PBN, you'll need:

        -Different registrar
        -Different hoster
        -Different (fake) profile
        -Different content
        -Different images
-Different theme, if Wordpress or other CMS
-Different authority links in your content Wikipedia, BBC, CNN, Answers*com
-Only one link to your money site
        and so on

The most important is not to leave any footprint so Google or even a human CAN NOT recognize your PBN sites or locate your PBN.

Otherwise you risk de-indexing not only your PBN, but all what is located on your IP!

        Cheers
        Dan
