Deep Niche Keyword Issue

In ignorance, I bought a long tail keyword as a domain name. I should have bought and used the broader version of the long tail keyword for the overall website. I heard that I can use two domain names together in a website title, as long as I separate them with the backslash key which produces the "|" key. Is this true? And if so, what are the cons for that as far as ranking purposes go?
