Has Google Analytics ever been way off for you?

I was just checking my stats and noticed one of my sites showed only 8 hits in GA yesterday. Shocking since this sight usually gets between 100-300 hits daily. So I'm thinking, oh no! I've been sandboxed or something. I have made not changes to the site in 2 months.

Well, I went to the sight to look at the internal stats that I keep and discovered that traffic was normal. About 150 hits. I then went to verify this against the awstats in cpanel. Awstats is showing a very low count of 30!.

I've been keeping track of this sight pretty much daily, and based on the usage on the site, I would estimate about 140 visits. You see, I get about 1 user comment for every 7 visits, and I got 20 comments yesterday.

This happen to anyone else? Does it happen often? I've only been using GA for about 4 months, and this is the first I've noticed it.

Why would GA and Awstats be that far off? Am I missing something? Is this site in trouble?

Thanks.

Google adsense doesn't show in real time. I've noticed on days (like today) when they are doing scheduled maintenance stats are slower than usual to show up.

I don't know this for a fact - but have thought analytics probably has the same issue. I do notice at times some sites such as the WF are slow to navigate and what is showing in my task bar is "google analytics" when that happens.

Thanks kay. I've noticed analytics is pretty much inline with adsense, about 3-6 hour delays. I forgot about the "maintanence" going one right now. However, why would the awstats in my cpanel be showing a low count also?

I did hit the click update button in awstats, and it's already showing hits today. I would love to believe that 2 out of 3 people left a comment versus the usual 1 in 7, but I seriously doubt it.

I'm using hostgator, I'd be curious to know if anyone else is showing a low hit count in awstats for yesterday.

Okay, stupid me. I didn't notice that the dates on the comments were one day behind what I was looking at. My site really didn't get any traffic yesterday! I posted in steve crooks thread about using autorank checkers as being the possible problem. My site was deindexed completely from google. The site and cache commands come up empty. I'm so upset. I was getting 99% google traffic till yesterday.
