Is it still profitable starting a link selling business

I wonder if it is still possible in setting up a link selling business from scratch. That is assuming that you have no domains and will have to buy them. I should know the answer but honestly I don't. I have sold over 1 million worth of links, mainly through link brokers but that is over now. That is because I could no longer keep up with my inventory being destroyed. The last straw was when Google started going after the inventories of link brokers themselves.
Over the years, I have seen link prices dropped and increasing difficulty in selling links. My opinion is that it is very difficult unless the link selling network is part of a SEO business i.e. there is added services.
