Adsense approval - does word count really matter? I see lots of sites with low word counts.

I look at a lot of sites that are using Adsense - these are popular sites that post trending pics and videos - and they barely have 100 words of content on each page. Just videos or pictures with a few sentences.

Yet I read that to get approved you should have content-rich posts of 500+ words. And that the content should original.

Apparently that's not true since all the sites I see have less than 100 words on each post/article and they often are just getting their images and videos from Youtube and Reddit, meaning it's not original and is just using copyrighted works.

You may be right at your point but when they applied for adsense account then they were following all term and conditions of Google adsense therefore Google approved their account. Some webmasters use less content after being old adsense publisher. Even Google checks time to time and ban such accounts.
