The subject line says it all. Someone suggested I find penalized websites and offer to remove the penalty. He is talking about stuff I have no idea about, but I was wondering as I have seen others work this niche. How do you find these websites?

    1) Google Webmaster - check if you get any message from Google.
    2) Check for indexes, if it doesn't indexed at all or major pages of the website are not indexed there is very good probability it is penalized.
Also check if the domain come out first for its own domain name (like searching "domain.com" in Google).
    3) Try to ask for reconsideration and see what is the reply.

Other than that, it is really hard to tell

The points suggested by tbtb123 are common practice to know website is penalized or not. Even you can use ismywebsitepenalized.com regarding this.

Mostly just spam email and take your chances. The average Joe Soap doesn't know wtf it's all about anyway. Adds his email to the Whois archives and before you know it he's getting offers from SEO to Anti-hacking services.

Spoofing the sender is another trick.

3 comments about WMT didn't even attempt to read OP.

I can't even begin to imagine why anyone would want to seek out slapped sites & offer to fix them. What a miserable service niche to target. I would be burnt out in 11min.

Maybe that's what John Mellencamp meant when he was singing Hurts so good?

Well Yukon, it ain't very hard to fix the problem, and there is money in it. Nothing more than that.

OP says you don't know anything about it, now it's not hard to fix?

I wouldn't consider fixing slapped sites an easy task.

What I was referring to was how to find them, the fixing part is not all that hard. And it can be outsourced real easy if I don't want to be bothered with the mundane tasks.
