Local domains for PBN for local SEO?

Hey warriors,

For those with EXPERIENCE (not opinions), do you recommend using local domains when building a private blog network, for local SEO?

For example, if I were wanting to rank local businesses in Google Australia, would it be better to buy Australian expired domains (.com.au etc)?

Or would it make no difference, especially if international domains had more authority / trust?

Local signals make a huge difference but you have two choices

TLD or host the domains in the local area - IP geo location is factored in.

The third for a money sie would be to set the area in webmaster tools but you would NOT want to have PBNs in WMT

I hadn't even considered that, that's awesome, thanks!

The main problem with many country level domain extensions is that they don't allow WHOIS privacy so you are left with the option of using fake registration details. I know this is popular among some that do PBNs but I'm not really a fan myself.

What do you think could happen in the future to people using fake details, do you think icaan or whoever could somehow figure it out?

If you want more impact locally, in my experience the TLD gives you a little more potency, but the hosting is a major influence.

I have a UK SEO client who had previously been struggling despite having tons of .co.uk sites, but with US hosting. We threw one .com link at it, but with UK hosting, and it jumped from page 3 to page 1.

About fake registration, I do this 99% of the time. The 1% is when I get domains from a registrar that only allows one who.is contact profile per account. In that case, I'll just use their free Private who.is. (This is usually the case with many back order registrars).

I use fake registration simply because it yields better performance vs private who.is, as is shown by testing, not speculation.

No issues with it in the 5+ years I've been doing it.

What kind of testing? Sounds like total speculation. Anyone can say that on a forum but considering its a violation of ICANN rules that can result in you losing the domains there should be a lot more evidence before telling people to do it. Correlation is not causation and that would be a very hard thing to test properly since there are all kinds of differences between domains.

I've seen absolutely no evidence ever that Google bypasses whois privacy or even that they could since the registrar who holds the domains holds the real information. The simple fact that Google is a registrar has started a lot of Urban myths.

That said most people do get away with speeding. its just that you should not be surprised if one day you get pulled over. Your call - just know the risk is there especially since unless you have a whole lot of payment methods your registrar will know if they want to.
