Need SEO advice

Hello,

I'm planning to buy a site which has good organic traffic. The seller has given me access to google analytics.
But my concern is that 90% of the organic traffic comes from a single keyword which is Not Provided by google. This has been the trend for last 6 months as per analytics data.
I'm not sure if this is normal because ideally i would have preferred the traffic coming from different keywords.

Sorry if this has already been answered before. Any insights would be helpful.

    I don't think you should buy the site because if the site is good and receiving quality traffic than why someone will sell that?

      Because maybe they don't know how to monetize it.

      Maybe they don't understand ROI trying to promote it throwing money away or iniating a poorly planned PPC? Their site could be user-unfriendly. Site could have been loading too slow. Perhaps the message was getting lost due to poor page internet marketing design and pushed potential customers away? Maybe they didn't do A/B testing to see if what methods they used were the most efficient? Prices could have been too high. Could be as simple as a site that wasn't selling anything at all, just a niche that attracted views the owner didn't capitalize on. Maybe the owner was making money and could make even more, but wanted to change their direction in terms of what they wanted to do. Just maybe the owner wanted to sell to make some money.

    Google has been scrubbing keywords data from Google analytics for some time. That is to say that most of the useable keyword intelligence is no longer available to site-admins via Google Analytics. That data is locked away and reported as "No provided".

    There is a real danger of this traffic evaporating because it's coming from single keyword or keyphrase. Although you can't get at it from Google Analytics, the weblogs for the site itself will certainly have that data. Ask the site-owner to peruse those logs and provide you with that information.

    If he or she doesn't know how to find and/or read the logs, maybe you do. If that's the case, ask for access to the logs. You'll need access to the site's control panel (like Plesk or cPanel, etc) to get at the logs.

    Lastly, if you can't determine what that keyword or keyphrase is, or the site-owner flat out refuses you, move on. You don't have enough information to make an informed decision!

    You can ask them to see Google webmaster tools, there they will show you keywords, the rankings/impressions and clicks for each keyword. This way you can get an idea what keywords are ranked and bringing in traffic.

    Why does it bother you that traffic is coming from only 1 keyword? If you buy the site, you can always get it ranking for additional keywords as well (by optimizing it for those keywords and building high quality backlinks).

    It's not one keyword. That could be 50 keywords. It could be 100. Google just doesn't share the information, so it shows up as (not provided).

    According to my opinion you should not buy that website, because as the analytics and situation you have mentioned here. That keyword you are talking about is looking like overoptimized and because of this reason you may get penalized by Google. However the exact situation about the website can only be explained after taking a look at that website.
