Are Press Releases still okay?

Hey,

Curious, as I still see different opinions. Some people say it's alright, others label it as grey hat.

Which one is it? Is it safe to write and submit press releases? And if so, which websites would you say are the most safe for this?

    Yeah, definitely, press releases are still OK. You still have to be providing quality content that provides value to both your potential site visitors and to the PR sites themselves.

      Press releases are not black hat. Not very effective unless you have something newsworthy though.

    As the name suggest it's information for the press. If you have interesting story to tell they can be very effective because journalists are under pressure to produce content quickly and cheaply.

    Unfortunately "press releases" in this context usually only mean an attempt to game Google. If you're trying to do that at least stay away from the junk sites. Even the better press release sites may not work that well, but at least your article is not accompanied by spun penile enlargement ads.

      With PRWeb you seem get a subpage that initially has no PR, some nofollow links, and some sort of weird iframe thingy. The site has all kind of content so it's not related to whatever niche or industry you're trying to target. I don't see that much SEO benefit there.

      It's not going to hurt you, but SEO should not be the primary reason to use PRWeb.

    Press release is one of the off page activities which helps in increasing traffic on the site. It is still effective if done on high PR sites.

    Well, I would say yes moving forward with the press release is still okay but what not good is doing press release in a bulk i.e you do press release over some bad reputed site this is going to hurt you. Try submitting your press release in some authoritative site I would say use PRweb or .... publish your press release in one or two sites and then use the power of the social media to promote it.

    Yes, press release is always giving good traffic as well as quality backlink. You have to post only quality content in high page rank websites, its gives the number of backlinks to your website..

    press realease gray hat? it could only be if done on spammy sites with some bots with spun texts, but if done 'normally' they are absolutelly white hat to me. And still working ofc.
