Hey Guys,
Been a lurker for a while and I finally have a couple questions of my own!

How do backlinks to my main blog effect the articles inside the blog?

If it's hard in my niche to get any backlinks, should I be focusing on just channeling them to the main blog URL e.g. www.blog.com/blog - or should I be focusing them on the individual content?

Thank you in advanced!

Lot's of smart people around here, I'm glad to finally get involved!

Quality backlinks (on pages with a high PR and dofollow) that point to your blog will help the articles inside the blog to the extent that your homepage eventually gets a High PR. However, if you want your specific articles (inner pages) to rank well, it is best to build backlinks directly to those pages as well.

It's never too hard to find backlinks within a niche. All you need to do is spy on your competitors' backlinks and try to get your backlinks placed on their sources. To do this, use a site like backlinkwatch, put in your competitor's URL, and note all of the backlink sources that provide a dofollow link. Now, go to those sources and place your link there too. After all, if your competitor is on the first page of Google in one of the top 3 spots, it means he's got good backlinks.

Thanks! I personally rather have our articles rank higher then the homepage of the blog (the articles are really high quality) ... So I guess I should get working on getting the articles backlinks then!

    I'm a "lurker" myself-

Do you mean how external links to your blog's homepage affects the other pages of your blog? If that's the case, I would say that other pages in your blog could benefit to some degree if your homepage has considerable page rank- so if you were to create another page on your blog, you'd do better in SERPs than if your homepage had zero Page rank.

The consensus is that back links should be directed to pages on your blog with relevant content than just to your main URL. Also it's a good idea to have great site structure with internal links on relevant pages of your blog for good measure. Here's a nice article on site architecture by the way... http://www.fannit.com/internal-link-building/

    Hope this helps...

Seems like it's going to be hard to get backlinks to a specific article now that I think about it... Guest posts mainly allow to the homepage of your blog

Even though i'm writing high quality content - Why is someone going to link to it ?

You cannot direct all links to your homepage.

Websites are not static, and each page ranks independently, but if your homepage is poorly marketed and constantly penalized to the point of even losing PR, your posts can get hit as well.

    Promote your articles.
