Should I request backlink removals in scraped content

Hello,
I'm in the process of clearing my webpage's backlink profile and as such I'm requesting some backlinks to be removed.
My website has received certain popular press coverage which was picked up by minor sites and bloggers - they essentially reproduced the press post including the backlinks to my site.
This means I've ended up with a good post linking to my site and several other posts in low-quality websites also linking to my site.
The question is: do I contact each and every one of these low-quality websites and request they remove the backlink or does Google 'understand' what they've done and disregard the backlinks they've created?
Has anyone addressed this issue before?
