Hi. My website was hovering around page 20 on Google for my targeted keywords, now its not on any of the search results. I even checked the omitted results. It is nowhere to be seen for my targeted keywords all of a sudden! Google has indexed about 90 percent of my website's pages. If I type in "site:www.mywebsite.com", my website still shows up so, I know it hasn't been deindexed by Google. I don't have any warning messages from Google in my WMT. Should I be worried? Does Google punish your website without telling you? Is my website just doing the "Google dance"?

I wouldn't be worried. It's the Google dance. Just Google trying to figure out where to put you. Very common. I've had solid Page 1 rankings for a few terms and seen Google completely remove it from the top 100 results only to find it on the 1st page again in two weeks. I though for sure I was gone.

Oh okay. Thanks for the reply. I thought maybe I was being penalized for too many back links to quick. I have been slowly building my back links manually. I have been building most of my back links on high PR forums and wicki sites. Is there a maximum number of back links you should not go over in a day to keep from getting penalized?

There is not a maximum number of backlinks you should not go over in a day, as long as you don't submit your backlinks to an indexing service then you should be fine. I've done that in the past and it triggered a penalty for one of my websites.

So, my website finally reappeared on Google for my target keywords but, it is STILL on the 20th page which means it hasn't moved AT ALL after all the back linking I have been doing! Am I doing something wrong here? Granted, Google just started indexing my website for the first time a month and a half ago, but still...

Hi. I would add some new articles or post the website in some Social Bookmarking sites. Also posting on Facebook, Twitter and G+ could help (DO NOT SPAM!). It is 100% sure that this is Google Dance effect!

If you think it's backlinks it probably is. The link building methods you just outlined are causing a lot of trouble for people these days.

Take a closer look at your backlinks would be my suggestion.

If you can still see your website on Google when you type in your link, you do not need to worry. It could be (like what everyone here said) because of the Google Dance.

If your site is still new, I suggest you focus more on building high quality links from good, high PR sites and then also combine your SEO methods with good SMM strategies. It would also help if you could use content marketing more- produce really high and quality content with high potential to become viral.

    I hope that helps.

If your site has disappeared just after you built a bunch of links then I wouldn't worry.

It's completely standard for your site to jump all over the place afterwards, just the same as it usually will if you change hosts or change themes etc.

Wiki and forum links won't so much these days. If you're new to all this then why not post your site for all to see so they can rip it apart and you can learn something.

I know what you mean about writing unique content. I do have 150 pages of unique content on my website with information and links within that content that no single website has all in one place like my website does. So, high PR wicki and forum do follow backlinks are no good now? Hmmm... what about blog comments on high PR edu and gov sites? Do those still carry any weight in terms of transferring link juice and SERP ranking?

Without even trying, I received 1,200 backlinks from a high PR gov site because people liked the one comment I left and linked to it so, 1 gov backlink (it's a no follow link, unfortunately) turned into 1,200 gov backlinks. I am guessing that sudden surge of high PR gov backlinks is what caused my site to jump from the 20th page to the 3rd page for my target keywords, even though my anchor text for that backlink had nothing to do with my target keywords. Google has already indexed the 1,200 links. Why would my site jump to the 3rd page and stay there for one day, only to return to the 20th page? I haven't lost any of my backlinks since then. I am trying to figure out what I did to cause Google to rank my site on the 3rd page but, I can't think of anything. Does anyone have any ideas what may have caused the sudden jump in SERP ranking for that one day?
