Where to add new content on site

I have my core longtail keywords being found on page one of all three major search engines - but in an effort to expand the list, I need to create additional content.

The question I have is all these existing keywords point to specific subforums in vBulletin, and the new longtail keywords would be easier to build content in a wordpress blog (i.e. more flexibility).

Example:
Existing longtail "Lake XYZ fishing reports", this works really well in a forum because it encourages people to share reports
My new longtail would be "Lake XYZ boat rentals"
If the authority and page rank for Lake XYZ resides with the vBulletin page, am I doing a disservice to the new keyword by installing a wordpress blog in a new folder such as mydomain.com/LakeXYZ when the forums are installed at mydomain.com - or does it not matter as long as the content, SEO and backlinks are good quality?

I guess a second question is - does too many sitemaps confuse Google?
