I have a client who has a ton of bad backlinks pointing to his site that have killed his rankings. Most of these came from crappy Fiverr gigs. Rather than go through the disavow process, he would rather start with a fresh website altogether. His original website was www.aaaaaa.com. When all the Fiverr gigs were done, that was the URL that was given to all the different Fiverr vendors. At one time he owned the www.aaaaaa.net URL and anyone that happened to type that in was redirected to the dot com address. He dropped the dot net address more than a year ago and it no longer redirects to the dot com website. So....if we were to use the dot net address for the new website is there any danger that the bad backlinks would point to the new site?

Thanks for your help.

John Mueller has said that penalties can follow you to a new domain even when no redirects exist. If it is true or not, I have not tested it, but it makes sense when they can easily link the sites together. Same business name, same address, same contact info, etc.

Please give me some solutions to recover this. the keyword is future vacations bangalore. If the .com site is toast & you have a .net that redirects to the .com you have nothing to lose removing the 301 redirect & testing a longtail keyword on the .net domain.

Test a longtail keyword & find out If there's a problem.

If you are redirecting the penalized domain to the .net, then yes you will have problems.

I'm wondering why your client doesn't fix the issue rather than starting over and risking that not working?

Surely it's easier to fix the issue than starting over with a new SEO campaign.By fixing I don't mean disavowing but doing link removals.
