So, I've been online for a long time. Over 7 years to be exact. Had no problem getting PR3 and 4. But who do I have to pleasure to get a page rank of 5?

It seems Google really wants you to prove yourself before you get there. Anyone else experience this?

Since the value of PR is a logarithmic scale. So why a PR 5 is hard but you should never worry that as Google doesn't rely on PR to rank your site....

You are deffinately going to need to get high-pr links. I think that I read somewhere that it isn't enough to just get high-pr links though...you need them to be on related sites preferrably anchored to your with your target keyword.

...but the key was the link had to be on a site with content related to your niche.

Yes, I think you have to have more PR5+ backlinks related to your niche, That will bring you PR5 or more.....

It is hard to get a PR of 5 because it takes a page/site of GENUINE quality in order to get there. What I mean by this is that you will not only need a TON of backlinks from other sites pointing to your page but you will also need a TON of high PR and relevant sites linking to your page.

With that said, you really shouldn't be worrying about the PR of your site as it literally doesn't do you any good. Instead, you should be focusing on ranking in the SERPS.

PR is odd - it's not important and yet it's fact that a link from a PR6 page is more valuable than a link from a PR2 page. So - the importance of PR depends on why you are looking at it.

Each step UP in PR requires more effort than the previous step - not the same effort doubled but the effort needed to reach each successive PR number is several times what was needed to reach the previous number.

If you practice good SEO and you have good content on your site, the PR will come. Not worth spending time focusing on it, though, as you can't force it.

PR is a hit or miss. I was at a PR5 for one of my sites, and it dropped down to PR3. I am not worried about it anymore because they really don't matter.

To get up to the PR5 you will need to get sites with a PR5+ to link back to your site, how you do that is up to you, but it will probably need to be through link exchanges or buying links.

Really easy way to do this is by building a massive website.. Like a forum that will have thousands of pages and they all link to your homepage. The creditbility like that is what really gets you there.

Its a common belief that PR is calculated exponentially. Most SEO gurus believe that this exponential growth is around 8 - 10x. E.g. PR2 is 8 - 10 times harder to get than PR1, PR3 is 8 -10 times harder to get than PR2, PR4 is 8 - 10 times harder to get than PR3 and so on.

So that means you have to get around 10 times the link juice to get a PR5 than it took you to get a PR4.

Thats about 10,000 times the link juice to go from PR1 to PR5.

Obviously backlinks from high PR pages will be the fastest way to get there.
