So I am trying to rank for a keyword on google, and the #1 and #2 sites are both google sites and .weebly.com subdomain sites. My domain is a .org with the keyword in the domain and despite me getting a few backlinks, webmaster tools shows I have no incoming links. How would I SEO against these somewhat weak sites.
(I emailed the owner of the site with the #1 position and he gets 100k views a day)

How is a google site weak site ? Weebly also has a very strong domain profile and its anything but weak.

The links you grabbed, are you sure they are of quality ?. Just because a link is live doesn't mean google is going to find it especially if its from a crappy source. Also Google takes its time recacheing and crawling sites in index so even if its from a quality source, its probably not being indexed by google yet.

Do for your website a micro niche blog on Google Sites and another one on Weebly (with a few links to your main website). Then bookmarks these websites on high PR social bookmarks, add 2 videos for each micro niche blog on YouTube & Dailymotion (also these blogs needs to be shared on social media).

Then start building several high pr backlinks for from each website:
Issuu, Scribd, Slideshare, Academia, YouTube, Dailymotion (and Vimeo if you can), Blogspot & Wordpress. Also build a Tire 2 for these backlinks, manually from high PR social websites (PR10 - PR5).

Usually in 1 or 3 months you should go in front of your competitors (in case they are not doing white hat SEO campaigns).

    Success!

okay so the google sites guy showed me his google analytics and the 100k views thing is true. In reality its just a flash games site made by a 6th grader. ( he told me). He has no idea on how much money hes sitting on and I got him to give me a link.

How much traffic a site gets tells nothing about how strong a link from that site is.

Let's say his site is PR0 getting 100k views per month versus a PR5 site getting 100 views per month... the PR5 site is obviously stronger.

With that, perhaps his outbound link number is incredibly high which makes the link longer to index by Google. Or perhaps his site is not indexed in the first place? Or perhaps the new link just isn't crawled yet by Google due to it being very new.

Also, how do you measure "weak" competition? Do you have actual stats to back that up?

You have an EMD that might be tough, if you don't know what to do. You need to get strong branded anchor text backlinks from sites with High Page Authority and Domain Authority that do not have a backlink profile that look SEOd. It must have high Trust Flow per Majectic and your website will rank.

You should center on getting high quality backlinks if you really want to soar your ranking.

There are a few other things you can do too to strengthen your domain authority.

Don't expect it to be handed to you on a platter of gold, you have to move your butt.

I figured it would be hard work, but I dont know how to start. Why would high pr sites give a link to a site that has no pr/authority at all? Wouldn't this reduce the pr of the other site?
