Very Strange - My Site Ranking Increased After It Expired

One of my website domain got expired more than 20 days back. Yet, its ranking has increased in Google for about 3 keywords which I was tracking in SerpFox. Right now, it is ranking around 180 in Google for one of its main keywords. But I do not have any intention of renewing the domain because I don't want to work on it anymore.

However, I find it very strange that a site which has got expired and when you open it a page from Godaddy shows up, still it is ranking in Google and in fact its ranking has increased over the past few days.

When you're talking about rankings that far down the serps, there tends to be an awful lot of movement without rhyme or reason. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Your anchor profile is probably responsible for that.

Which is a sign that you probably dealt with some sort of Panda related filter / penalty.

Onpage things can make huge differences and with no onpage you can't make any mistakes either.

I wouldn't consider position 180 much of an improvement, it's still not getting traffic for that exact keyword.
